Gardermoen/Garn-demonen (Yarn-Demon??) 2008

200 g MANOS DEL URUGUAY, 100 % wool. Hat finished, scarf started.

What a great way of spending a weekend! Happy knitters, spinners, crocheters to the left and to the right and in every corner of Moreppen Grendehus. All women. What about that? Well, women can do more than one thing at the time. We all proved our multi tasking skills, resulting in ears ringing (from the talking), full and happy bellies (from the food and the yummy cakes some of the ladies provided us with), red eyes (from staying up all night knitting), new and wonderful acquaintances (as most of us met "live" for the first time), laughing (because some knitters are also born-to-be performers), learning (because we all love our craft and happily share the shortcuts and tricks of the trade), and of course badly afflicted wallets and accounnts (because of numerous yarn-buying possibilities throughout the weekend). It has been great, and THANK YOU SO MUCH ARIELLE and the rest of you who made this possible. Hope to see you all again soon :o) Here are the reasons I am excitedly awaiting my next payday (2600 g of great yarn makes it worthwhile!!!):

350 g purple MISKI (100% baby Lama), Du store alpakka. Bought to match the Noro Cochoran to the left. Jacket to be!

100 g OPAL BAMBOO (50% virgin wool superwash, 35% bamboo, 15% polyester + a glass heart pendant, gifts from Mauds garn

100 g FIORELLO (100% polyamid), Filatura di Crosa

600 g BABY SILK (80% alpakka, 20% silk), Du store alpakka

150 g HACHO (100% merino wool), Du store Alpakka

200 g MANOS DEL URUGUAY silk blend (70% merino, 30% silk)

500 g ROBUST (80% wool superwash, 20% polyamid), Idéna

250 g WAVE (75% wool, 25% silk), Filatura di Crosa

450 g MOHAIR LUX (60% mohair, 40% acrylic), Idéna & some mother of pearl buttons

Hat # 6

Look! ANOTHER hat...?!? This one is for me and I am selfish enough to say that I would NEVER give this one away... because the wonderful yarn was spun by Supernøtt and given to me as a x-mas gift last year. What a great present! I kept the yarn in a mini greenhouse hoping it would grow while I spent the winter (and spring and summer and fall) trying to figure out the perfect project for these yards of beauty. I think this hat brings out all the pretty shades and details of colour combinations prety well, and it sure looks good on me (This said by a hat-o-phobic, mind you!) ;o) To make the design as big and baggy as I pictured it I had to add some other yarn. A scrap of unidentified burgundy coloured wool (or acrylic blend?) and a strand of purple Plumet did the trick.

This weekend will be spent at Gardermoen in company with MANY other dedicated knitters/blabberers/giggelers - in about 2,5 hours I´ll be there!!! I am so exited and the only thing that could calm me down this morning was to hunt down my little scrap of Noro Silk Garden that I plan to use to trim a Calomietry... I´ve been digging through all of my baskets and bags over and over without finding it - and then, finally this morning there it was, in the very same basket I first searched through a week ago... Why is this important...? It is not. But it describes my excitement about the weekend. I got Fiberfeber (Fiber Fever)... and what cures the Fiberfeber? Well... FIBER?!? This is the skein of wool as it revealed itself as last years x-mas gift from Supernøtt.

Colours quite accurately reproduced in this blurry day light photo

Scwarmer

Thank you for all the nice comments lately :o) It is always nice to find traces of your visits ;o)

My beloved two skeins of Noro Blossom finally found its right use early this spring - I just never came around to posting the Scwarmer (SC-arf + arm & shoulder WARMER). Until today. And this post definitely lacks an important element: photos that really describes the versatility and nice details of the garment. So stay tuned - more photos will be blogged as soon as I can get someone to help me take them. I simply forgot to ask my Handyhunk assistant to do more angles, more details etc. Photographing ones own back would be a challenge even for a yogi so I gues I just have to wait for my Handyhunk to return ;o)

Hat # 5

Here I go again! Another hat is done... started at a knitting café last night and finished later the same night. This one is for a cutie who turns 3 today - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mathea! She will have her present in a few days, as I am planning to adorn it with some lace and beads and maybe a crochet flower and also accompany it by a scarf. The yarn is less than 50 g of Smart from Sandnes. The needles are 3,5 mm and the pattern is yet another variation on my own basic hat pattern.

Hat # 4

This is the 4th and probably last hat I knit for charity for a while. I will probably knit more hats for the near and dear, though, as the cold season is sneaking up on us. My simple pattern is very versatile, and this last one has even a flower/star-like decrease design. The possibilities for alterations and variations are endless for the happy hats! I can assure you that this is not a complicated knit (ref. my commenter from last post) :o)

Hat # 3

More blurry pictures for you today ;-) Another hat is finished - still the same simple, improvised basic pattern. This time with stripes of moss stitch, and a plait patterned rib. There is a hat # 4 on the needles now, almost done, so stay tuned if you are into hats! There will be other news later :o)

Hat # 2 again

Finally a sign of life again... RL is still busy, but I get a bit of knitting done some nights, on the train etc. Hat # 2 is now finished and photographed in poor light - trying to catch it´s true colours. Thinking that a blurry picture with true colours is better than a sharp, over exposed and "falsely" coloured one ;o)

Hat # 2

Knitting is a bit slow right now. The pace of everyday life is changing radically (from "on top of it all at a pleasant speed" to "What?! Who? Me??") as Princess has been back to scool since Monday. Early mornings and rather long days at work + an art piece comission has kept me busy. And I have an urge to go to sleep at nine in the evenings. I really hope for some clear days now; I think lack of daylight is my biggest challenge! The sun is out today, though, and it is wonderful! During the winter I guess I will keep my Therapy Lamp close - and lit! ;o)

The colourful glimpse abouve shows a piece of Cancer Hat # 2 (60% done at the mo). I hope this will keep somebodys head warm through the same winter. I count my own blessings everyday, and I am grateful. Contributing to the Pink Ribbon inspired hat project is yet another blessing.

Hat # 1

This is my first hat for this years Pink Ribbon knit along; "Luer for huer" initiated by Irenesol. Hopefully there will be many more before October - my stash and scraps should most certainly be a perfect source for soft, warm, colourful, pretty, cool and maybe funny or even ugly hats ;o) Pattern: my own (very simple baggy shape with a square decrease)

yarn: Alpaca (Du store Alpakka) and Fabel variegated sock yarn (Garnstudio). Less than 50 g all together Needles: 3 mm circular and dpns

Baby Ripple

The Sweet Sweater has been out and about lately, and recieved numerous compliments "live" as well as on the blog. Thank you all! This pleases me of course - and I am determined that I will knit more similar sweaters. Being a "odd skein"/stash/scrap-project it still produced more leftovers. And as I guess you all know: stash projects often requires new yarn purchases to finish the project... and so on. The Sweet Sweater colours are sweet enough for any baby girl, and to calm it down and add a little retro edge I bought two balls of brown linen/viscose, and I actually needed every inch of it to finish this little Baby Ripple Blanket. And the last few inches of all the other colours came to use for the border. I think I have 1,2 m of the sparkly purple and maybe 5 m of the other purple. Not bad! Resulting in quite a qute blanket :o) Finished size: 55 x 80 cm (should fit as a baby carriage cover) Pattern: Ripple, pattern to be found in numerous books and on endless amount of blogs Yarn: Cotton, linen/viscose, viscose and acetat (various brands) Hook: 4 mm

EZ Heart Hat

The hat modelled by a Baby Born doll - proving that my gauge has

produced a garment that will fit a newborn baby. Oh, soooo cute!!!

This is the beautiful Heart Hat - a very fun and fast knit that turned out to be at a perfect gauge to match the size of the Baby Surprise. No doubt Elizabeth Zimmerman must have been a true genious - and for a knitter with just a hint of imagination her books (that might look a bit dull and dry) are a rich well of inspiration and brilliant technical insight. I am truly happy and thankful that her work was documented and published for the rest of us to enjoy and learn from.
